Known as the City of Gold (or Egoli) Johannesburg is the financial capital of Africa and offers its visitors a look at the vibrant lifestyle so typical of the new South Africa. With the discovery of gold in 1886 Johannesburg has grown to become one of the largest cities in the world having a population of over 6 million people. Cruising through the downtown commercial area with its Victorian architecture of the old mining houses alongside the newer offices of the banking houses it soon becomes apparent why this city is so important to Africa. Leaving the downtown area we will visit the northern up market residential areas with their huge shopping malls, beautiful gardens and numerous recreational areas. Former President Mandela mansion will also be seen as we cruise around these northern suburbs.

Founded in 1855 as the capital of the Transvaal Republic Pretoria is now the capital of the Republic of South Africa and houses the Presidential offices, the High Commissions and Embassies of most of the world's countries. Known as the Jacaranda City Pretoria has a wealth of historical buildings including the Voortrekker Monument, Paul Kruger House, the world famous Union Buildings and Church Square.

This tour takes the visitor back to the "Cradle of Mankind". In 1947 Dr. Robert Broom discovered " Mrs. Ples" (Australopithecus Africanus) and the tour will descend into the caves where excavations are still in progress revealing more important finds of our ancestors. Whilst in the area a visit to the old Kromdraai Gold mine will show how the early miners excavated gold.

Situated east of Pretoria is where the largest diamond in the world was discovered in 1905 weighing 3126 carats. The conducted tour will take you into the high security area to view cut diamonds and replicas of the most famous diamonds in the world. The big hole will be viewed showing where surface mining was originally performed in the extinct volcanic pipe. After the tour tea can be taken in the quaint Victorian tea-rooms. As an optional extra the Sammy Marks House and the Willem Prinsloo Agricultural Museum could be visited in the afternoon.

Depart from your Hotel morning or afternoon for a tour of Soweto (South Western Townships). This is the largest township in South Africa covering over 100 square kilometres with a population of approx. 3 million. We visit the former house of Pres. Nelson Mandela, pass the current house of Winnie Mandela, and also visit the Hector Peterson Memorial. We also pass several residential areas including the wealthy "Beverly Hills" and also a squatter camp (informal settlement) depicting the extreme diversity in lifestyle.

West of Pretoria is this world famous attraction housing cheetah, king cheetah, the rare very shy brown hyenas, vultures and the endangered wild dog. The tour commences by viewing the cheetah cubs and the honey badger before climbing aboard the vehicle for the tour around the estate where we enter the large paddocks housing the cheetah and see them being fed. This will enable the guide to highlight their characteristics. Once we enter the paddock of the wild dog we will see them being fed, which will be consumed very quickly. This tour could be the highlight of your trip to South Africa.

We arrive at Lesedi Cultural Village just before 11:00. From here your guide will take you on a tour illustrating several of the African Tribal Cultures. We depart from Lesedi just after 14:00 with the option to visit Glen Afrique where you have the opportunity to walk with Elephants, view the Rhino and pat the Lion.

FULL DAY - PILANESBERG GAME RESERVE & SUN CITY ZAR775 per person

The two hour drive will take us to the fun capital of Africa where visits to Waterworld, Gary Player golf course, crocodile park, Valley of the Waves and the massive entertainment center housing the casino, shops and restaurants of international standard. After lunch (for own account), we will visit the home of the big five in the 560 sq.km. Pilanesberg Game Reserve, which is situated inside the rim of an extinct volcano. Having cruised around the park for the afternoon we will exit the park just before sunset to enable us to, hopefully, see the lions setting out on their nocturnal hunting.
