Namibia is renowned for its wide open spaces, its
spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The Desert Express schedule
has been planned to allow passengers to take in all of these.
From Windhoek to Swakopmund
After departing Windhoek in the early afternoon, Desert Express
heads north until it reaches the Otjihavera Siding. Here you will
be taken to the luxurious Okapuka Game Ranch to experience the
excitement of watching lions feed only metes away. When you're
back on board, Desert Express continues its westward journey.
Enjoy the sunset over the open vastness of Namibia in the Spitzkoppe
Lounge or through the large observation windows of your compartment.
In the Welwitschia Restaurant, a sumptuous three-course dinner
awaits you. The train stops for the night at a quiet siding. Next
morning, Desert Express continues westward into the desert and
among the dunes between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Here, there's
a one-hour stop to allow passengers to disembark and take a walk
- the dunes of the Namib are unique. The train then proceeds to
its final destination, Swakopmund, where it will arrive at approx.
10:00.
From Swakopmund to Windhoek
Desert Express leaves Swakopmund in the early afternoon and stops
at the Stingbank siding. Here you will be able to enjoy the sights
of the Kahn Valley. Our on-board knowledgeable Namibian guide
will explain the fascinating history of this area and the railway
line, also teaching you a traditional game played by the Damara
people of Namibia known as "ROB". Back on the train,
enjoy a sun-downer in the Spitzkoppe Lounge while taking in the
splendour of the wide open spaces. Dinner is served in the Welwitschia
Restaurant. Next morning, Desert Express arrives at the Otjihavera
siding from where you will be taken to the Okapuka Game Ranch
for a Game drive. From here Desert Express continues its journey
to Windhoek where it arrives at approx 10:30.

Facilities on Board
There are 24 fully air-conditioned compartments,
in 4 sleeper coaches (named Kokerboom, Meerkat, Springbok and
Oryx), each with its own en-suite facilities. Each compartment
converts to a private lounge during the day and can accommodate
up to three passengers.
The Spitzkoppe Lounge is air-conditioned and
passengers can relax and enjoy a full bar service. This includes
several specialty drinks - ask for them and enjoy !
The Welwitschia Restaurant offers breakfast and a three-course
dinner, exquisitely prepared.
Sit back and enjoy the view in our Stardune Bistro, or admire
the Namibian night skies in the Starview Coach. Desert Express
also caters for corporate charters and short functions (such as
sun downer trips, cocktails, presentations, conferences and product
launches).
